After completing this session, children will be able to identify basic plant parts and functions.   Children will define soil and explain what it's made of and how it’s formed.  Discuss the physical properties of soil, including its texture.  

After completing this session children will be able to explain the concepts of plant health care.  Identify common insect problems.  Understanding the value of planning ahead to avoid issues and the need for prevention against plant disease.  

After completing this session, children will be able to explain the basic principles in planting vegetables.  Discuss the basic principles of vegetable crop rotation. Explain what to look for when selecting vegetable varieties.  How to maintain your vegetable garden.  

After completing this session, children will be able to describe the factors to consider in planning to grow small fruit crops in their own backyard.  Discuss the growing requirements of strawberries, including planting, fertilizing, pruning and harvesting

After completing this session, children will understand the importance of the fruit industry in Michigan.  Describe and discuss the several fruit trees that grow in Michigan.  

Discuss the requirements for growing fruit trees in their own backyard, including planting, fertilizing, pruning and pollination.  

After completing this session children will learn how important  environmental factors play a role in successfully growing flowers.   How to plant, care and maintain a wide variety of flowers.  

Aftering completing this session, children will be able to explain how and when to water plants and discuss water quality.  Children will be able to recognize some common signs of insect and disease problems of indoor plants and suggest methods of control.
